- 1.Pass auth token in the connection URL query string or as a subprotocol: new WebSocket(url, [token])
- 2.Send auth in the first message after connection opens (WebSocket headers can't be customized in browsers)
- 3.Validate the token server-side in the 'upgrade' event before completing the handshake
